The Intercept: Breaking The Silence On Israel
EDITOR’S PICKS Breaking the Silence on Israel
U.N. investigators concluded last week that Israeli troops may have committed war crimes or crimes against humanity during their weekslong bloody crackdown against Palestinian protesters last year, a charge that the Israeli government automatically dismissed. Breaking the Silence, an anti-occupation group of former Israeli soldiers, works to reveal the reality of such military operations. In recent years, as Mairav Zonszein reports, the Israeli right has made a well-coordinated, concerted effort to quash the small whistleblower organization’s exposure of Israel’s human rights violations and occupation of Palestine.
Meanwhile, in the U.S., bipartisan attacks against Rep. Ilhan Omar continue for comments she had made about the pro-Israel lobby’s influence in Washington. As Mehdi Hasan writes, lawmakers’ claims that their criticisms are about fighting anti-Semitism couldn’t be further from the truth.
